Back, Not Bored

The Red Hot Chili Peppers

You may have noticed it’s been a hot minute since I’ve blogged.  I noticed because so many people asked me about it.  That was flattering, but also a little uncomfortable.

(My business brain auto-responds to the question with fear: “Uh oh!  I’m not enough?!” Then I have to tap consciously into my most brilliant self to affirm, “I am more than enough as I am.”  There, that’s better.)

Why has it been a hot minute?  I experienced a little writer’s block, perhaps for the first time in my life.  Maybe because there were some important feelings I wasn’t ready to express in public until I could manage to express them in private.  Or maybe for more practical reasons, including that I don’t have the luxury of being “sponsored” like some writers I admire.

Of course even without the blogging, I’ve still been writing.  I write all the time, in my journal and via email.  When one of my clients wrote me “I, for one, would love to be really bored for a little bit.  To feel like I have excess capacity, unused resources…”, I responded “It’s my dream to be bored – just for a little while!  Life is too interesting lately.”

How is my life interesting of late?  Oh, blizzard.  Norovirus.  Type 1 diabetes.  Unemployed ex.  Bar mitzvah.  Braces.  Cousin living with us.  Need I go on?

How do I rise above all this Interesting?  Three keys:

1.    Fierce commitment to my priorities

2.    Unwavering emotional resilience

3.    High-at-all-costs authenticity

For me, applying these three keys meant taking a break from blogging for a while.  Overall, I’m ok with that.  And now I’m excited to be ready to get back to it.
